Fresh Markets and Home Cooking
The culture is to go to the market once or twice a day to pick up fresh ingredients for the next meal. Breakfast was no exception. Susan would head off early in the morning to pick up yogurt, fruit, desserts, and fresh bread (for fried egg banh mi that we assembled ourselves with tomato, cucumber and cilantro). She always served fresh squeezed orange juice, iced tea, hot coffee/tea if we wanted, and a selection of fresh fruit and something sweet like steamed tapioca coconut cakes or glutinous rice yummy things freshly made that morning. It was phenomenal!
Some of her home cooked meals: pork chops, stir fried pumpkin flowers and mushrooms, and a cucumber and shrimp soup.
Stir fried green beans, pineapple chicken, and a country soup with corn, potatoes, daikon and carrot.
